Join Sheffield libraries this April for their Black British Ballet season, shining a light on the untold stories of trailblazing Black dancers.
A free exhibition is open at Sheffield Central Library during normal library opening hours (10am-5pm Monday to Friday and 10am-4pm on Saturday). Alongside that will be the following free events:
Darren Panton in Conversation
Darren Panton was the first black dancer to graduate from the Royal Ballet School’s White Lodge boarding school. He has danced with companies such as Birmingham Royal Ballet and London City Ballet, performed in theatre productions including The Lion King and Notre Dame de Paris, and worked with a wide array of artists including Beyonce, Usher, Diana Ross, Elton John and Kylie Minogue.
He will be in conversation with Marsha Lowe about his career and experiences in ballet.

Black British Ballet: a history, with Dr Sandie Bourne
Find out more about the hidden history of Black British ballet from the 40s to the present day. Join Dr Sandie Bourne to hear the stories of the pioneers, from those who were denied work in the UK to those who finally managed to smash the colour bar in Britain’s biggest companies.
